| THITA welcomes applicants who are professionally trained Interpreters and Translators.
If you wish to join THITA – please forward your CV and copies of other relevant documents either by e-mail or post. You will be invited to meet the group, and if successful your name will be added to THITA’s qualified Interpreters and Translators Register.
Recruitment for new trainee interpreters takes place every six months.
After selection all successful applicants will attend a 2 day in-house Induction Course – after which successful applicants must take a further six week Community Interpreting Course leading to a 'Community Interpreting Training Certificate'. This is followed by further advance qualifications: the DPSI Diploma Course, presently starting on 6th October 2007 and the DPSI annual examination, which will take place in June 2008.
To become a successful interpreter an applicant must:
● be enthusiastic
● have the ability to learn new things
● have a commitment to helping the community share their language and culture
The above qualities are more important than any previous experience.
We require the following qualifications:
Interpreters
Certificate in Community interpreting (Level 3 minimum) only in rare languages
Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) (Oral/Practical) Level 6
Translators
Diploma in Translation (Institute of Linguists)
Sign Language
BSL Level 4
